  10. PCPC TO OFFER FACTORY DIRECT PRICING

  12. Tampa, Florida, January 5, 1990--  In a dramatic shift of policy, Personal
  13. Computer Peripherals Corporation (PCPC), which had been a mainstay of the
  14. Macintosh dealer and distribution channels since 1985, announced today that it
  15. would be offering its products for sale directly to end-users.

  17. "In analyzing our customer base, we determined that the peripherals market has
  18. undergone an evolutionary shift in buying philosophy", said Vice President
  19. Robert Leeds.  A degree of sophistication previously lacking in the personal
  20. computer market has been replaced by a knowledgable consumer who is evaluating
  21. three things--the quality of the product, the reputation of the company for
  22. excellence, and the pricing of similar products.

  24. PCPC, which has led the Macintosh market with its introduction of products such
  25. as the first zero footprint, high capacity hard drive, the MacBottom®, and the
  26. only network backup software available for the Macintosh, NetStream®, will once
  27. again have a lasting impact on the Macintosh community by offering products of
  28. superior design at prices which will make advanced technology affordable to a
  29. much broader base of users.

  31. Consumers will now be able to purchase quality products at savings approaching
  32. 70% off current dealer prices on similar products.  The difference between
  33. PCPC's approach and those of other companies which have sold direct to the
  34. end-user will be that all PCPC product offerings will be at the forefront of
  35. technology.  "We will not merely be providing 'me-too' products", said
  36. President Edward Cheffetz.  "While we continue to offer the staples of the
  37. peripherals market, we will also introduce many new and exciting technologies
  38. in the coming months", he added.  As an example, he cited the release of
  39. DATStream, a desktop mountable, random-access, 1.3 Gigabyte tape drive which is
  40. bundled with PCPC's NetStream software.

  42. Although DAT technology is in its infancy as a tape standard, PCPC believes
  43. that projected prices of $7,500 for similar units makes the technology
  44. unaffordable for many businesses.  "By offering this technology at a price of
  45. only $2,879, however, PCPC hopes to accomplish its goal of bringing the
  46. consumer tomorrow's technology at yesterday's prices", said Leeds.
